Szczecin

Szczecin, main city of West Pomerania, is located at the Oder estuary to the Baltic Sea. Due to historical importance (European transit routes crossed here for ages) it is called a Polish window to the world, and to the streets arrangement that resembles the French capital - Paris of the North.

The city has indeed a stormy history, but it is proud of its rich tradition. During its splendid era (under the rule of Gryfits dynasty), it was important Pomeranian port and commerce center.

What is worth seeing in Szczecin? First of all such historical monuments like: Pomeranian Dukes' Castle, St. Jacob Cathedral Basilica, Town Hall or Port Gate. Worth recommending is the walking route via Szczecin avenues that lead along Oder River and Chrobry Banks, up to the colorful fountain. It is romantic, nice area where it is good to relax for a moment.

From year to year Szczecin becomes more and more modern, which is reflected in its architecture. Recently, many new facilities have been built: swimming pool, show and sport hall or philharmonic.

Despite its dynamic development, it is still the city friendly to tourists that has many green areas. Golden Route that leads from the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle through Jasne Błonia, to Arkoński Forest and Głębokie Lake, attracts to admire the picturesque area.

Persons who are looking for some entertainment should visit Szczecin in the holiday season – the city is particularly vivid during internationally important events, like The Tall Ships Races and Pyromagic that attracts even up to several hundred thousand persons.

Come and see the charms of the floating gardens city!
